I'll be the Mockingjay.

Katniss is from District 12, the coal mining district, in Panem. Her father died when she was about 11 in a mining accident. Her mother became despondent so it was Katniss that took care of her mother and younger sister Prim. She is best friends with Gale Hawthorne, who unbeknown to her harbored feelings for her, and hunted outside the fence with him.

When Prim's name is chosen for the female tribute in the Hunger Games Katniss steps forward and volunteers. Here she gets to know the male tribute from her district Peeta Mellark. She remembers how he burned two loaves of bread to give to her and got beaten for it by his mother.
